Six tourists arrested over alleged rape of British teenager on Spanish holiday island

Six people have been arrested over the alleged rape of an 18-year-old British woman on the Spanish holiday island of Majorca.

The suspects, including five French and one Swiss, are all tourists.

They were detained shortly after the alleged assault on Monday, in the popular party destination of Magaluf.

All six are over 20 years of age.

A judge in Palma found there were video clips of the alleged rape on at least one of the suspects’ phones, police said.

Officers cited the victim’s statement where she said she met the suspects and later went back to the hotel room of one of them, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by all six.

The victim was found in a distressed state by the hotel’s security, who called the Civil Guard – one of Spain’s national police forces.

The alleged victim received immediate medical attention and counselling.

The detainees appeared before a judge in a court in Palma on Tuesday.

They are all being held in jail, but have not been formally charged, as the investigation is ongoing.

Gang rape is considered an aggravating factor that can carry sentences of up to 15 years of prison in Spain.

Several cases of gang rape in recent years have shocked the country.
