Elon Musk joins call for pause in creation of giant AI ‘digital minds’

More than 1,000 artificial intelligence experts have joined calls for a temporary halt to the creation of “giant” AIs.

They say the capabilities and dangers of systems such as the chatbot GPT-4 need to be properly assessed.

There are fears the development of such AI ‘brains’ are moving too quickly and poses a threat to social systems, the economy, and even mankind as a whole.

Among the signatories to an open letter on the subject are Elon Musk, who co-founded the OpenAI lab that created GPT-4, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
